BST – Bloody Stupid Time
// March 28th, 2007 // Personal
Why oh why does GB hang on to the concept of BST?
As someone who finds it very very difficult to adjust my sleep pattern the weekend just gone is normally followed by a week of rushed mornings, late arrivals and general chronological calamity.
And for what?
The basic concept behind BST is one of daylight saving which was very important for no apparently good reason back in 1916 when it was introduced. Since then BST has been applied during WWII to ensure maximum production time for industry and has also been cited as having positive effects on energy consumption, economic growth the price of fish and other fantastic areas of modern life.
All I know is it plays merry hell with my body clock and I’d sooner have it abolished.

Yeah, but it’s all worth it for the extra hour in bed we get at the end of October, when we revert back to GMT..
Why can’t we just have the extra hour anyway? Over the course of 12 years the day simply reverses itself.
That would be fair to shift workers and the like who would get some semblance of a normal day.
So in 12 years time, day is actually night? That really would play havoc with energy consumption, etc, etc…
Nice idea, but you can’t have the extra hour without losing one first. No pain, no gain, and all that.
sorry rob, i quite like BST. its a pain for the first couple of days but those spring evening when its still light when I get home are quite nice feels like the day hasn’t been wasted at work. Guess what i’m trying to say is it’s a psycological thing with most peeps.
p.s. it is only an hour difference. this year is gonna play merry hell with my body clock lol.
No need to apologise Dan, I like the BST benefit and would rather we stayed +1 hour all year round.
And yes, your body clock is going to be fucked by the time you get back
Probably worth it though!!!
BST is great!!
Come home from work in the sun and then go do some gardening or sit outside.
LOVE IT!
KEEP BST
