coComment – never forget to argue again!

// June 12th, 2006 // Personal, Tech

One of my biggest problems with Blogs is the whole commenting angle. I have no problem with my initial comment but it is frequently the case that a post is about to spark a lively debate and I completely forget to revisit to see if others have been interested in what I’ve had to say.

There are a number of home brew solutions to this – many blogs offer RSS feeds for comments but they tend to be site wide (i.e. exposing my already groaning feed reader to loads of dross) or are not implemented using the feed:// pseudo protocol and involve a copy and paste – yuck.

Plus there is the tidying up of old feeds or book marks – in short it’s a bit a nightmare to keep on top of.

Enter coComment, a new web based comment tracking service. A simple bookmarklet or FireFox Extension allows you to “subscribe” to the comments from (almost) any blog and view updates in one handy location. Plus they offer an RSS feed for you to keep tabs on what you’re subscribed to. And they provide a simple script to “integrate” your blog for even simpler subscription and management.

If you have a look at the comment area for this post, you’ll see a coComment button which can be used to sign up. I’ll let you know more about the service after a couple of weeks use but for now it looks like another plucky Web 2.0 company has provided a solution to one of my online issues! Well done guys.

Update: as you can see from the comments / trackbacks listing coComment are really good at keeping tabs on their users. This is the first time an online service has actually made the effort to get in touch in a truly personal manner. If they keep this up they’re going a long way!

  3. Rob says:

    The plugin is superb. The RSS seems a bit hit an miss but aside from that it’s utterly brilliant.
