DTR – Rebooted

// May 1st, 2006 // Tech

Well I’m finally done and the new design is live around the world!

On the whole I’m pleased with the way it’s gone. There are a few areas that I’ll be revisiting over the next week or so as time constraints meant I had to rush them (i.e. the header graphic, the comment form and the live search).

Total design and development time is about 7.5 hours – not bad for a day’s work!

New features include:

  • Live Search
  • A dinky use of the loop to provide a recent post and 3 others
  • A load of new plugins to handle comments, gravatars and the like
  • A new way of displaying my archives in cloud format
  • NO SIDEBAR!!!

So what do you think? Comments are always welcome. In the mean time I’m going to go and stick my fingers in a buckets of cold water before they seize up.

Like it alot mate and it only took you 7.5 hours! What are Bank Holidays for anyway?

I like it. The lack of sidebar completely threw me at first, so actually Ctrl-F5-ed a few times! Couple of things:
Search page goes to a 404? (Is it just me being special?)
Livesearch on the fron page somewhere?
2nd most recent post, is the box meant to line up with the right-hand box? In other words, the grey gap!

Ok, I feel bad now for pointing those things out…given that you created this from scratch and I have merely adapted an existing template…you can beat me next weekend if you want :(

No seriously, I do like the new layout, despite my constructive criticism!

    Ooh, nice.

But… the archives don’t work. May 2004, for example, just gives the homepage with a different title.

Nice design, though – certainly different to the old one

Thanks guys. Have tidied up a lot of the outstanding issues and everything seems to be working ok now. Here’s to the November reboot!
