MT 3.2 is now in Beta testing…
As an alpha and beta tester for MT 3.0, and as one who has since shifted to WordPress via Expression Engine, I have to say that the new release looks rather good … not good enough to make me swap back but good enough for me to install it and have a play around.
One thing that struck me though is how Six Apart have shifted in their Beta philosophy.
Do it publicly
Testing: There’s no reason to be all secretive about it (and, frankly, after you use it, you’re going to want to tell people about it anyhow).
This is a marked shift from the testing of 3.0 where test blogs had to be private and no tester was allowed to discuss the software. I think this denotes a definite return to form for Six Apart following their rather controversial licensing program. I was also pleased to see they are keeping their ears well and truly to the ground, as demonstrated by a good friend of mine who received a comment from Anil Dash (VP of Six Apart) on a post detailing a planned move to WordPress.
From a personal perspective I dumped MT in favour of a PHP based solution mostly because I speak pretty good PHP and speak absolutely no Perl whatsoever. I also had major issues with rebuilds and the dynamic mode functionality seemed way too young to be trusted (not to mention complex in the extreme to set-up). Oh and the waves of spam may have had something to do with it too!
So good luck Six Apart. Carry on like this and you may win me back one day but you’ll need an anti spam solution that’s more effective before you do.

I’ve been playing around with the 3.2 beta since last night, and there are some frigging cool new things going on. Lots of AJAX being used, to make everything seem more connected. There are a few bugs – it is a beta, after all – but generally it rocks! Methinks I’ll be sticking with MT for the time being…
