Transports of Delight

// July 28th, 2004 // 2 Comments » // Personal

One of the things that I love about the UK (and Jersey for that matter) is our dedication to transportation. Now you can normally tell which areas of society are deemed to be worthy of attention by dint of the simple fact that it will have a pub situated outside of it.

We’re all going on a summer holiday (again)

// July 27th, 2004 // 4 Comments » // Personal

Im reaching that point in this blog where Im really not sure if my post titles are original or not

But I dont really care that much as in exactly one months time Im popping over to the UK for my summer jolly. With a little luck Ill be seeing Jeremy, Julian, Marcus et al and hopefully will find time to see my very old friend James. I may even pop up and see some relatives but you never know how the time is going to work out.

I have to tell you Im just about ready for a holiday. It has been a very hard year so far and shows no sign of getting any easier any time soon. But it will certainly be made more bearable by the simple fact that I get nearly a week and a half off at the end of August.

Of course this will mean the usual mad rush for the week before I actually go and the crazy couple of days after Im back but I think I can manage that after all, Im getting off rock!!!

Incidentally Markiss is currently on holiday in France which means I am meant to be blog sitting. Any ideas as to what I can post on an absent friends site? Anybody? Bueller?

This quiz is a pleasent little vintage!

You know which wines go best with which foods, and
you can make New York Citys finest sommalier feel like a kid at a keg party. You wanna take that Emeril guy and beat him with a stick, but really – youve got more class than that.

What people love: You know the best restaurants and what their specialties are.

What people hate: Every waiter in town wants to mangle your pretentious ass.

Party Nights R US

// July 25th, 2004 // No Comments » // Personal

Well last night was the good old party night at the Prince of Wales hotel at Greve de Lecq. The idea was to get people from a number of local pubs, get them out of their respective locals for one night and have some fun. It was a storming success (as you may be able to tell from the slightly disjointed posts at about half 3 this morning – sorry about that!).

Id just like to say thanks to Markiss and all those who organised it. We all piled down there on the coach. Some people were in fancy dress, everyone was up for a good time. There was a DJ set (who later got stroppy because no one liked the music … well he was playing hip hop to a crowd with and average age of about 40!), Elvis showed up and did a few numbers, there were games and dancing and, as is typical when youre having a really good time, one o clock just zoomed up.

Everyone was really well behaved and with a little luck this will have been the first of many. Oh and Alan … you owe me a few pints mate!

And for the record

I’m Published!

Ive been holding off on this until the article was actually released but I am pleased to say that I have my first ever article published today in Business Brief (a pan island, monthly business round up).

Hopefully Ill be asked to write a few more (I like being asked to write things – it makes me feel all special). This particular article was on Business Portals – a subject about which I know considerably more than I should.

For those who are interested, the article is in the extended entry.

New toys!

And for some reason I seem to be developing a distinct need to finish my titles with exclamation marks today … never mind.

MY LAPTOP ARRIVED TODAY!!!!!!!

It??s currently sat on my desk on all its lovely 15? glory. I??d love to say I??m typing this on it now but unfortunately I have to rip the damn thing apart and upgrade the OS to Win XP Pro before I start customising things and configuring bluetooth, GPRS, WiFi and all the other goodies that come with owning such a machine.

I??ve put it through its paces though and the only problem I have is with the screen brightness. You can increase it but it halves the battery life so I will just have to learn to live with it. So know you can expect me to post from the most bizarre places until the novelty wears off (although I promise that if I post from the toilet I won??t tell you).

By way of proving a point

Markiss may recall a conversation where we argued over infinitesimal reduction. Simply put Markiss said that if you continued to half something it would just keep getting smaller and smaller and smaller … Now the redoubtable Pixy has posted some interesting points on minisculity the best of which is the simple fact that I was right and Markiss was wrong – Hah! Planck Length baby – smallest of the small!
