I fricking hate Macromedia Contribute

I’ve been trying to set this site up to use Macromedia’s baby editor and it’s been nothing but hassle. I’ve actually given up at the moment and have decided to take the laptop down and work on it locally for this evening’s training session.

The client isn’t going to be too happy but as they haven’t got round to setting up the proper hosting yet they aren’t in any position to argue.

I’ve found some other problems with Contribute as an editing tool. My fave so far is the simple fact that server-side includes no longer work! You can’t edit the damn things. In Dreamweaver it give you the option to edit the included content – in Contribute … not a sausage. You have to go through a convoluted menu selection to get to the damn page… ARGH!!!

Of course it doesn’t help that I am looking at this from my position as a Web Designer (a self capitallising one at that) and I understand how all this works … how the hell are my barely computer literate clients going to get on with it? Plus the whole site needs to be redesigned to work with Dreamweaver templates, the hosting still needs sorting out and … this is my favourite part … the client still hasn’t given me any content for the site. They are planning to add it all during the training session this evening. As I explained this to FlatMate (an accomplished linguist) this is the equivalent of his having a 10 minute conversation in a different language with someone who is also fluent but having to explain everything you’re saying to a 3rd party. In short – it’s going to take forever!

Right, I gotta go and try not to think about the nightmare that is this evening. Thankfully I have a reasonable quantity of Work work to do which should take my mind off things.
