Kill Bill II

// April 30th, 2004 // 2 Comments » // Personal

So I’m finally getting round to posting what I thought of the second movie. First off, can I just say that the films would have been much better if they had been released as one movie. I appreciate why this isn’t practical but a lot of the subtlety and nuance was lost in the split. Themes could have been introduced earlier and carried over and the second movie could have been shortened.

I’ll also warn you that the extended entry contains spoilers so read on at your own risk.

If you can read this then my upgrade to MT3 b2 has been successful.

Hopefully you won’t notice any changes to the way the site works but we’ll have to wait and see really won’t we.

Ok, my bad

Kill Bill volume 1.

What can I say? This film rocks. I say that as an avowed fan of Tarrentino’s previous works. What made it for me (aside from the obvious) was the cinematography. There are some truly clever shots in this film. Add that to the top notch editing, excellent use of very high quality Anime and the wonderfully extrovert characters and you get a 5 star film.

I get to see part 2 tonight and have to say I’m looking forward to it more than any film in the past 5 months.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

What’s going on?

Not too sure to be honest with you. Saturday was the stag do and was predictably unpredictable. My only major crime was losing the camera. If I have time I’ll do a full round up for those who are interested.

Bad news on the music front – Orbital are splitting up! Very unfair but they kept the world entertained with crackin melodies for the past … long time so they are more than deserved a break. The only plus side is that their final gig will be from Glastonbury this year. The festival is already sold out (as it has been since about 24 hour after the tickets going on sale) but I’m hoping Radio 1 will have enough sense to broadcast the whole set. All I have to do is find a tape long enough to … preserve it all!

What else goes on in the world? Well, Jersey is experiencing an odd kind of pre-summer summer. The temp hit 100f yesterday and it’s only April.

I watched Master and Commander last night (it was my Dads birthday present from me) and have to say I greatly enjoyed it. As movies go, it’s a little long and contains one or two anachronisms but, those aside, is stunning for its historical accuracy. Well worth a watch if you have 2.5 hours.

Oh and to anyone of Antipodean origin, the XSet flag is flying at half mast for ANZAC day. For all those who lost loved ones, they fought bravely and will never be forgotten. This almost makes up for my total failure to recognise St. Georges day on Friday.

I’ll be back later (or not). Have fun.

Ah that friday feeling

So I was lying in bed last night and was thinking about spatial dimensions, gravity and Beaujolais … I think that’s as god a mix as any.

The main reason for dimensional thinking was that I don’t own a bowling ball and will therefore be unable to demonstrate the base principle of dimensional distortion to anyone should they ask. I’d happily worked out that gravity can be easily represented as a pan-tangential 2 dimensional force when I fell asleep.

And then woke up about 20 minutes later. Thats the problem with deep and meaningful thoughts just before bed, they keep you up. Before I knew it I was back to Beaujolais. There had been a glass sat on the nightstand earlier while I sat reading a very boring book . I love the colour of young wines. It almost teases you with the ruby hint at the base of the glass giving way to a deep scarlet. Picking up the glass seems to somehow excite the wine and it blushes a deep seductive pink. I came to the conclusion that red wine is one of light’s party spots, a spot where it can forget about rushing around being a fundamental segment of the universal makeup and just chill out, slow down and put its feet up and refract.

Maybe there are other substances that allow light to relax in this way. Maybe I’m talking out of my arse but I think tonight, I’m going to finish work, go home and relax with a glass of light-party.

I fricking hate Macromedia Contribute

// April 20th, 2004 // No Comments » // Personal

I’ve been trying to set this site up to use Macromedia’s baby editor and it’s been nothing but hassle. I’ve actually given up at the moment and have decided to take the laptop down and work on it locally for this evening’s training session.

The client isn’t going to be too happy but as they haven’t got round to setting up the proper hosting yet they aren’t in any position to argue.

I’ve found some other problems with Contribute as an editing tool. My fave so far is the simple fact that server-side includes no longer work! You can’t edit the damn things. In Dreamweaver it give you the option to edit the included content – in Contribute … not a sausage. You have to go through a convoluted menu selection to get to the damn page… ARGH!!!

Of course it doesn’t help that I am looking at this from my position as a Web Designer (a self capitallising one at that) and I understand how all this works … how the hell are my barely computer literate clients going to get on with it? Plus the whole site needs to be redesigned to work with Dreamweaver templates, the hosting still needs sorting out and … this is my favourite part … the client still hasn’t given me any content for the site. They are planning to add it all during the training session this evening. As I explained this to FlatMate (an accomplished linguist) this is the equivalent of his having a 10 minute conversation in a different language with someone who is also fluent but having to explain everything you’re saying to a 3rd party. In short – it’s going to take forever!

Right, I gotta go and try not to think about the nightmare that is this evening. Thankfully I have a reasonable quantity of Work work to do which should take my mind off things.
