Because I’m in a bad mood

// November 27th, 2003 // No Comments » // Personal

and haven’t had a poke at America for a while … go and check this out.

and I’d like to thank you all for allowing this subtle redefinition of democracy to continue unabated … nobody else can sort him out America – it’s up to you now, but if you need a few pointers, you just watch what we do to Tony come election time … well ok so probably nothing … and if we do we get an equally ineffectual conservative government … but at least we only get the crappy leaders we voted for!!! And at least we haven’t picked one who seems totally intent on irritating the middle east more effectively than someone pissing in their oasis … cut it out alright … we live a shit lot closer to them than you do… and lets face it, if the call to arms went out tomorrow and the nations of the world had to line up to pick sides, what do we end up with? A bunch of trigger happy yanks, a few under equipped brits, and a scattering of unimpressed ozzies armed to the teeth with equipment that doesn’t work outside of the lab … against most of the rest of the world.

So Georgey … you may want to think about how many stings we can really afford to endure before you poke your hypocrtical, anti-terror stick into that particular hive again.

OK so I’m lame

// November 27th, 2003 // No Comments » // Tech

but I’ve been ill alright – hence the lack of bloggage. And just to confirm that I am as lame as you think I am, lets begin my return from the wilderness with … a Googling:

can anybody out there give me a clue on how to get my life together?

Sorry whoever you are but if you found your way here then you are truly in trouble now… I can only hope that he / she / it was able to glean some microbes of wisdom from “those guys on the right” colloquially known as my blogrollees.

So, as I said I’ve been ill – quite badly ill in fact with an average temperature over the past three days of 101f. I have no idea what it was or where I got it from but take it from me – it was nasty and you don’t want to try it. Now I did think aout attempting to write something but really couldn’t bring myself to put finger to keyboard. Whilst being ill I have managed to complete Call of Duty and have decided that this is the best game I’ve played in ages and that anyone who owns a PC and has a penchant for FPS should immediately go out and buy a copy… as games go, it’s derivative, in some places frustrating and the plots / missions are quite obviously lifted from a variety of movies but aside from that it plays well, looks gorgeous and has a pleasent spectrum of levels & enemies all of which combine to ensure you can are left playing just one more mission for hours!

I’m also going to have to claim my new joystick back at some point (not yet though don’t panic markiss!) as I have to try out the new demo from Lucas Arts (secret weapons over normady or something) to see if it’s worth buying… which it probably isn’t.

And finally, I’m sure you’ll all be pleased to hear that it is now only 4 days until the launch of the new site design… I’ve finally mamanged to get my blogger content into movable type (after a fashion) and so am nearly there … ooh its so exciting I can’t wait.

Right gotta go and look busy now.

Hmm, Cheesy Goodness..

// November 21st, 2003 // No Comments » // Personal

I’ve been considering this for a while now but have only just found what I consider to be the perfect set of starter questions. I love movies of all varieties and so take great delight in introducing the first (hopefully of many) Cheddar X!!!

1. What’s your favorite/least favorite movie?

Damn, getting started with the hard ones huh? Right, all time fave has to be The Ice Storm by Ang Lee. Just don’t ask me to tell you what it’s about … it’s about everything in a life the universe and everything kinda way. A haunting soundtrack, real life characters and some truly ridiculous situations conspire to ensure I get something new from this film every time I watch it.

Worst film … now a film has to be really bad before I’ll rate it as such (I mean come on – I have every John Carpenter film ever made) but I think this one has to take the biscuit … its a piece of shit movie which only gained notoriety through that whole Sharon Stone’s minge shot thing … are we so easily distracted? Come on people … it’s shite!

2. What’s the best movie-adaptation of a book?

Ooooh … I’m impressed books and films. Unfortunately, my choice totally lacks gravitas. It’s got to be Starship Troopers … yeah, yeah I know but have you read the book? No? Well then stop moaning. I think other close calls are 2001, Bladerunner, and of course, the whole LOTR’s thing… I might come back to this cos I’m sure there are more but I can’t remember them at the mo.

3. What movie makes you cry?

Moulin Rouge nearly managed it but I think I was desensitized by ET at an early age … movies just don’t cut it anymore.

4. What movie do you watch to cheer you up?

Big Trouble in Little China – it’s mindless fun.

5. Any amusing stories involving movies or the movie theater?

Well, there was this one time, at band camp … no wait, wrong film. I and a very good friend of mine had a fantastic time which was due 100% to the movie Go … but that’s all I can tell you

6. Would you rather go to the theater or stay home and watch a movie?

Depends purely on the film. I mean for big budget mega FX movies I prefer to see them at the cinema. But one f my greatest pleasures in life is curling up with a glass (ok bottle) of red and a good film.

7. Are you more awed by a good plot or special effects?

Plot, every time. Effects are there to enhance the plot and shouldn’t eclipse it. Eg Crouching Tiger was a great movie thanks to its intricate and winding plot line. The effects simply finished it off!

8. Who is your favorite/least favorite actor/actress?

Damn, I knew this was coming and I really have no idea. It depends on the context.

Looks

Rachel Weisz – not the greatest actress of our time but certainly one of the most photogenic … come one, she just glows on film.

Acting

Tim Robbins – More or less guarantees that it will be a good movie. I love the Shoreshank Redemption and Arlington Road, whilst disturbing as they come, was perfect thanks to the tension between Tim and Jeff.

Julianne Moore – Super sexy, and incredibly talented. Excellent in every film I’ve seen her in. Can do no wrong so far as I’m concerned.

Ability to make me laugh

Bill Murray – this guy made Caddy Shack watchable, perfectly finished Wild Things and was brilliant in Quick Change.

Lloyd Bridges – Anybody seen Airplane or Hotshots recently … nuff said.

From Johnny Huh,
9. What’s your favorite cult movie?

Cult movie? Define Cult … are we talking about Wickerman (movies about cults) … ok … my fave non mainstream movie which could just about be described as cult has gotta be Tank Girl. I mean come on – dancing Kangaroos … you gotta love it

From Joey,
10. Matrix Revolutions, worth the wait or WTF?

I think my previous post answers this quite nicely.

And I think I’m done.

Josh wants a scandal

// November 20th, 2003 // No Comments » // Personal

Generally speking you can tell its a busy day when I post links to other blogs rather than actual stuff … but this little number actually resulted in my having to leave the room to collapse in fits of hillarity in the car park.

My favourite moment (although its all gold dust):

COME ON CELEBRITIES! Let’s get some real scandals going, folks! We’ve got a month and a half to knock out a juicy one before ‘03 is officially on the books!

David Arquette, rob a bank! Naked!

ROCPLMAO…

In other news, Jim has just discovered that Disney has a serious dark side, and it would appear the Bartender is having a momentary crisis of background.

Oh and She who is well and truly Smitten has put my simple googlings to shame … surely those aren’t all real

Blogging Trends that are really starting to PISS ME OFF!!!

// November 20th, 2003 // No Comments » // Personal

Ok, so I like the blogging thing. I like the fact that I have a never ending source of entertainment and creativity to consume (I’m a big consumer of all things written). But just recently, I’ve started noticing a few things that really piss me off about the Blogosphere. Consequently, I’ve decided to document them here. Please note I have deliberately ommited examples unless it is impossible for me to do so.

Without further ado …

Part one – People who use grey as their body font colour.

WTF are you doing? Grey against white = low contrast = hard to read == MIGRANE INDUCING IRRATATION.

I know you think it looks ‘cool’ but believe me you are so very very wrong. Cut that shit out before I come over there and kick your ass. Oh and anybody questioning my authority to make this statement might want to check out what I do for a living… personal taste is one thing but this is a step too far. If you don’t like black then try blue, green, red – in fact any colour of the whole spectrum of millions provided it has a saturation of at least 60% and a brightness of not more than 35%.

Amd whilst we are on the subject, white also doesn’t work against a light background. There’s a very good reason its called a Blackboard people – lets see what can learn from that!

Oh and grey is more than ok for larger type – headings and such like but please people, lets keep your blogs easy to read huh?
